Royal Caribbean Cancels Spectrum Cruise Due to Typhoon
Royal Caribbean has canceled a Spectrum of the Seas sailing that was due to depart on July 11, 2026, after a typhoon disrupted operations in Shanghai, China.
In a statement to booked guests, the cruise line said the four-night voyage from Shanghai to Incheon, South Korea, could not proceed because of the storm’s impact.
We have been monitoring the progression of Typhoon Bavi as it slowly moves toward Shanghai,” Royal Caribbean said in its letter to passengers.
The company explained that the vessel’s previous voyage was unable to return to Shanghai on schedule after the Port of Shanghai Baoshan was closed by local authorities.
Due to the development of the storm and its impact, and the government closure of the Port of Shanghai Baoshan, the previous Spectrum of the Seas sailing has been delayed returning to port,” the company continued.
Royal Caribbean apologized to affected guests for the disruption and confirmed that everyone booked on the canceled cruise will receive a full refund that will cover the entire cruise fare, including any pre-paid onboard amenities and airfare purchased through Royal Caribbean.
In addition, the cruise line will reimburse guests for certain non-refundable travel expenses. Those with domestic travel arrangements can claim up to $200 per person for change fees, while passengers traveling internationally are eligible for reimbursement of up to $400 per person. Eligible expenses include fees associated with changing hotel reservations, flights, train tickets, and rental car bookings.
As an additional gesture of goodwill, Royal Caribbean is providing a Future Cruise Credit (FCC) worth $500 per stateroom. The exact amount may vary depending on the cabin category. The credit can be used toward any Royal Caribbean sailing departing on or before July 11, 2027.
“We are sorry for the impact that the storm and governmental port closure had on your planned time with us,” the company added.
