Passenger Arrested on Drug Charges During Scarlet Lady Cruise
A 35-year-old passenger from Spain was taken off Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady after being arrested by Greek authorities on drug-related allegations during the ship’s stop in Souda, Crete, according to local media reports.
The incident took place aboard the vessel, which is currently operating an LGBTQ+ charter cruise organized by Atlantis Events. The sailing has already made international headlines after Turkish and Egyptian authorities refused to allow the ship to visit scheduled ports, citing concerns over “moral standards” and forcing itinerary changes earlier in the voyage.
According to Greek news outlet Patris, the passenger was brought to the attention of the ship’s security team after he was allegedly found in possession of and distributing illegal drugs while onboard. Security staff reportedly notified the Chania Port Authority before the vessel arrived in Souda.
Once the ship docked, officers from the Hellenic Coast Guard carried out a search and allegedly found small quantities of cocaine along with cannabis in the passenger’s possession. The man was arrested on suspicion of breaching Greece’s drug laws. However, local reports state that he was later released following a verbal order issued by the public prosecutor.
Although authorities released him, he was not allowed to continue the voyage. According to the reports, the cruise operator refused to let the passenger reboard the ship, leaving him behind in Greece while the cruise continued.
Neither Virgin Voyages nor Atlantis Events has issued a public statement regarding the incident.
